That day we just decided to lay low, I ran and picked up a little cake and some balloons and we let him demolish the cake.
One of his favorite things to do is climb the stairs and look through the spindles...
On Sunday I made some monkey cupcakes. We let him devour one of those too...
Look at him eyeballing that thing. |
Monday was Marc's 1-year check up. Mikey took the day off so that he could go. Marc got four shots and one finger prick, poor baby. He handled it like a champ (and by champ I mean he SCREAMED bloody murder!!) He weighs 18.9 pounds and is 28 inches tall, both in the 5th percentile. He's a peanut!!
We also made an appointment for Emmery that day. She has a wart on her finger and I wanted them to burn it off. The doctor took a look at it and said he wouldn't burn it off because it would hurt her too much. He said that dermatologists actually recommend using apple cider vinegar to clear up warts. So we followed his instructions of soaking a piece of cotton with the vinegar and duct taping it to her finger. Yeah, I'm sure you can guess how that went over. We told her it was "medicine" for her wart and that she needed to leave it on her finger. After about five minutes she ripped it off. So we tried it again, and again, again. Basically we came to the conclusion that she isn't going to get rid of that wart until she decides it's ugly enough to get rid of.
Tuesday morning Mikey woke up and decided to take another day off!!! Yay for us! I thought it would be a great opportunity to hit the zoo. We are usually only able to go on weekends and it's so crowded. Going during the week is so much better. We had a great time, all of the pictures are already on the blog since I forgot my camera.
On Wednesday I "hosted" my first play date! Basically a play date is when moms get together and let their kids play while the moms (attempt to) chat. It's really nice to get a chance to talk to other adults! I have been to many play dates at other people's houses so I kinda felt obligated to host one. It went well! I did my best to be okay with all the kids trying to wreck our house but I don't know if I pulled it off to the other moms. There was one kid who was very close in age to Emmery, about a month younger, so I thought they would be perfect playmates. Turned out she spent the whole time playing with a 4 year old! I know that EVERY parent says their kid is smart and talented and blah blah blah but I definitely think Em is ahead of most kids her age. The boy that was her age was still just saying one word at a time! He would say, "ball" or "truck!" Emmery, on the other hand, explained to him why it was dangerous to play close to the stairs... he could fall and get hurt! I worry that she's gonna be one of those weird kids who talks like an adult at 5 years old.
On Saturday we took the kids to get some pictures done. It went okay. Emmery is at that age where she doesn't really understand smiling for the camera. Marc is so smiley, but if he's not attached to me at the time it's a toss up. I think it went pretty well over all. They did their best to make the kids giggle, but Emmery was really funny. The girl tried to get Emme to smile by saying, "I'm gonna tickle you, tickle tickle tickle..." and Emmery looked at her like, "do you think I"m a BABY????" So Emmery goes, "My name's Emmery, and that's Marc, my brother. And that's my dad" (pointing to Mikey) "And that's my mom" (pointing to me). Poor girl didn't really know what to do after that. Marc was good about smiling, but he didn't last long before wanting mommy to pick him up. I really do think Em is a replica of me and Marc is a replica of Mikey. Although Emmery has Mikey's brains, she's definitely got my personality. Marc probably has Mikey's brains, and also his personality.
Today we attempted to go to a nearby playground but it started to rain by the time we got out of the car. So we came home and made some yummy snacks and watched some football. Pretty awesome week if you ask me ;-)
