I know it sounds crazy, but braiding my daughter's hair was one of the things I used to dream about, way before having kids. I remember very clearly the day my mom taught me how to french braid. We were in our Colorado house (Ventura Way) sitting on the couch using Kate's Cabbage Patch Doll with red silky hair. It didn't take me long to catch on and I remember practicing and practicing... on Barbies, on My Little Pony, pretty much any toy that had long hair.
When I saw that Emmery was born with that gorgeous jet black hair I thought I would be braiding it in no time. But I guess I never realized how difficult it would be to get a toddler to sit still! I never even attempted to braid her hair because I knew that it would just end up a big battle... Until today. It started raining around lunchtime and didn't let up. So I gave the kids a long bath and when they got out I decided to give it a shot. Marc played in the bathroom cabinet and kept himself occupied while I did the first braid. She sat still for me and just looked in the mirror the whole time, but towards the end she started to whine. So I bribed her with an episode of Yo Gabba Gabba and we went out in the living room to do the second braid.
Sorry for the super long post on hair but I was very excited about it!!! :-)
Ha ha.... I have a feeling we will be seeing lots of this look in the future!
Before bed I asked if she wanted to take them out or leave them in....

Carnival
Last Saturday the local elementary school was putting on a carnival as a school fundraiser. Actually, it is the elementary school that Emme will end up going to if we are still here in (only) TWO years!
It was a beautiful day, probably too hot for Mikey's standards. But we all know it will be much, much worse soon enough...
They had about five different bouncy houses so Emmery jumped right in...
Some pics I took at home before we left...
One of their favorite things to do, watch the birdies...
Watering the garden in the morning...

Forgot to squeeze this one in between the last two posts...
We ate breakfast and asked Emmery what she wanted to do, it was her birthday after all!! She didn't hesitate long... Chuck-E-Cheese! She was so excited!
This has got to be one of the oldest games in the joint. I was surprised she even knew it was a phone.
Marc loved it too!
A much more posed morning shot. |

He's waving by-bye to the phone! So cute! Emme was playing a bowling game and Marc just decided to have a seat in the game. |

Silly Kiddos Melting My Heart!
The other day we took a walk/jog to the duck pond and playground.
Marc always gets so comfy in this stroller, when we got to the playground he was out!
Look at that precious baby...
Since Marc got his nap in the stroller, Emmery decided that she would take her nap in a different place as well. How about the iPad??? :-)
I love how her feet are tucked into the couch cushion. |
Marc checking himself out in the mirror.
Just wanted to end this post with a cute little story about the two of them...
We were leaving the gym this morning, and usually I carry Marc in one arm and hold Emmery's hand with the other. Marc kept asking to walk so I gave in and put him down. I told Emmery that she needed to stay close to me but didn't need to hold my hand because I was holding Marc's hand. She grabbed Marc's OTHER hand so the three of us walked through the parking lot to my car. The whole time Emmery is talking to Marc, "I need to hold your hand buddy because parking lots are dangerous. There's lots of cars and they can hurt you buddy. Be careful buddy, hold my hand buddy."
Oh my God I thought my heart was gonna melt all over that parking lot!

Okay so she's really three. There, I said it. I've been quite nostalgic and thought I'd put together a quick photo montage, if you will :-)
Three hours old...
Three days old...

Birthday with Nanny and Pop
We decided to do a birthday celebration for Emmery while Nanny and Pop were here. Emmery requested a Milli (Team Umizoomi) cake so I set out on the Internet to see what I could find. I did my best to replicate the one I found, I think it was pretty close! :-)
She only asked for two things: a sand and water table and an Ugly Doll...

Her very own Ugly Doll |
She could barely sit still she was so excited! |
It was late so we decided to put it together the next morning...
All it did was rain, rain, rain while they were here! But the kids found a way to make it fun, as kids usually do ;-)
