Kids, Paint

Sibs...

So I finally decided to let Marc try finger painting. At first you can see he's a little timid. He sat there and smiled and giggled for a while.

Finally he decided to dip one finger into the paint...

And then two fingers...

Then two hands...

Emmery said she was done so I took her to the sink to clean her hands.  When I came back to clean Marc, this is what I found...

Emmery is almost 3

So when people ask how old Emmery is, I tell them that she is two.  Then I say, "well.... she'll be 3 in March."  I HATE saying that!   It just seems like THREE is the turning point; she is not a baby anymore. That makes me sad. Ya know...  at 3 they should be potty trained, at 3 they should speak clearly, at 3 they should be mini adults!!!!  Noooo!  At 3 she is still my baby! A baby that I need to hug and kiss.  Snuggle. Every once in a while I go on my computer and look at her baby pictures.  Okay maybe not once in a while... maybe once a month. It just goes so fast.  Why didn't anyone tell me it goes THIS FAST???

Making her beaded necklace.  No help needed Mom!

This video was recorded just to remind me that it wasn't all rainbows and butterflies.  Emmery went through a very short (crossing my fingers!) tantrum period.  If something didn't go her way it was tantrum city!  She seems to have outgrown it, but she still has little emotional outbursts...
Marc is very aware of when he poops.  He says "poo-poo" while he's pooping!  So I thought I'd bring out the Elmo potty (the potty that Em used when she was learning) and put him on there when I thought he would need to poop.  Well it didn't go so well.  I took Marc's diaper off and set him on the potty and he freaked out.  Meanwhile, Emmery screamed and whined that she wanted to poop on the Elmo potty.  When I told her that I would not allow her to poop on the Elmo potty, this is the response I got...

Long Weekend

Mikey had MLK Day off so we had a nice long weekend.  One day we decided to go to a bigger playground nearby, The Angel Playground.

Ready for the playground!!

Emmery asked for sunglasses for Christmas.  She really hates when the sun gets in her eyes.  It cracks me up but she looks so cute with them on!

MY WORLD!!!!!!!......

Just another day....

Putting together these last few blogs really makes it look like we do not supervise our children at all.  We do!  I pretty much spend my whole day just cleaning up after the last mess.  They destroy one room, and once they are done I go clean up after them and while I am cleaning up, they are onto their next escapade!  I don't even want to imagine them as teenagers!
So I think Marc was sleeping.  Emmery wanted to play with some stamps that I had in the craft closet.  So I got them out for her and got her some paper.  After a few minutes, she walked into the living room and told us that she had made a mess.  I thought, what kind of mess could she have made with stamps??!  She turned around to walk back into the art room and we noticed her (naked) butt was covered with glitter.  Glitter??? Where the hell did she get glitter???  I put all the messy craft supplies up high in the closet so she can't get into them.  Well, she did.

See the glitter on her butt cheeks?

So this is what was left.  Pretty sure each one of those canisters was full...

Emmery started to complain that she had glitter in her butt crack so I brought her into our bathroom to give her a shower.  Seriously, this was the same day, I am not making this up... We walked into the bathroom and it sounded like water was dripping.  For a moment I wondered if we left the bathtub faucet running.  Emmery said to me, "what does that sound like, mommy?"  Then I looked at the window over the bathtub and thought, hmmm, that looks kinda weird.  Then I realized that the sound we were hearing was the window CRACKING! It was literally breaking right in front of our eyes!  I called for Mikey.  He was like,  "oh, my, God."

So the window had spiderwebbed.  Mikey went online and contacted some glass companies.  They told him that this happens all the time.  A sudden change of temperature or pressure can cause the glass to spontaneously break.  Ohhhh.  Then it all started to make sense.  Any time the nightly temperatures reach below 50, we open our bedroom windows.  So the temperature probably went from like 70 to like 40 in a matter of minutes!  Whoops!  Luckily, it all ends well.  We called our builder and told them our window broke for NO REASON and they replaced it.  Yay!

Marc at 15 months

So hard to believe he is already 15 months old. His personality has really started to form and he just makes Mikey and I giggle all day long.  I don't know if it's because he's so small but when he talks it just makes us laugh.  He started with saying "uh-oh" at about 8 months old.  By the time he was one he was saying a few more words.  Now, at 15 months, he can repeat almost anything we say.  He also answers yes or no questions, which is pretty amazing.  This morning, he woke up and I brought him into the living room and sat him on my lap.  Usually when both kids have woken they like to say good morning to each other and give hugs and kisses.  (Super cute, I really should get it on video). So anyway, he said hello to Emme and then turned to me and said, "hungry!" So I said, "oh, you're hungry?"  "Yeah." "Well would you like some waffles?" "Yeah!" So I made him some (yes frozen) waffles.
Yesterday Mikey was holding him in the kitchen and Marc pointed to the iPad and said "iPad!"  We had never really taught him the name for it but he sure learned it anyway!!
He can point to his belly button, his nose, his eyes, his ears, his toes, his feet, his hair and his head.  It is just absolutely amazing what a human being can learn in just 15 months of being ALIVE!!!

Believe it or not, these next two pictures were taken right after I had cleaned up the bathroom and gotten the kids dressed after The Bathroom Incident.

Sprinklers in January?

This Houston weather takes some getting used to.  I really shouldn't complain because I don't miss the snow.  But it would be nice to walk outside and get a blast of cold air in my face.  Instead you walk outside and are hit with humidity, heat, and a swarm of mosquitoes.  Anyway, a couple of weeks ago we went out back and Emmery begged us to get out the "sprinkle toy." Marc was down for his nap so he missed out.  Emmery had a blast.

The Bathroom Incident

So we've all seen the pictures, here is the story... I fed the kids and cleaned up after them, and finally sat down to enjoy my breakfast.  I saw the two of them go into my bedroom but I wasn't too worried.  Our bedroom and bathroom are baby-proofed, and I had finally put a lock on my bathroom cabinet because Marc recently discovered all my glass-bottled perfume.  Usually if they go in there, Emmery turns on the radio and they have a little dance party.
After a few minutes I realized just how quiet it actually was.  So I walked into my bathroom, turned the corner and saw this...

I swear the box was sitting exactly like that!  I couldn't have staged it better.  I choked back my laughter and sprinted out of the room to get the camera.  They continued on, not really aware that what they were doing was at all funny.

Emmery just kept saying she was "fixing" him.  He sat there patiently while I laughed and took pictures.

I just can't believe he sat there and let her wrap them around his hands and feet, his forehead, his neck.  I think he finally decided he was done so he got up and started walking out the bathroom door.  Then he turned around and walked towards me... "Help?" and he reached out his hands.  Awww.  So I peeled them  off.

Ducks and Quote Jar

Some pictures of the kids feeding the ducks...

I found this idea on Pinterest, so I can't take credit for it.  We started writing down some of the things Emmery says, or just any of the cute stuff they do, on a scrap of paper.  We put them in this jar and then on New Years we read the quotes.  I decided to type them up and put that on the blog for you guys.  We didn't start this until like September so there aren't that many, but they are well worth reading.  I like this idea because I don't think we would have remembered half of the funny stuff she says!

Our names are at the front of each one to indicate who wrote which quote...

Sarah 11/22/11- Tonight on our evening walk Marc started pointing to everything he saw.  Emme would tell him what he was pointing at, “tree, light, grass, bird!”
Sarah 10/5/11- Em: “Guess what mommy?” Mom: “What?” Em: “I love you.”
Mikey 12/5/11- Marc “mnblgmmmblg”
Mikey 10/23/11- Em at the zoo, “We need the penis thing.”  “The WHAT??”  We later realized she meant the CANOPY for the wagon.
Mikey 12/4/11- Em: “I sure do like your big toe daddy.”
Mikey 12/5/11-  Em: “I’m covering my butt hole daddy.  With this egg.”
Sarah 9/28/11- I love it when Marc wakes up from his nap and Emmery says, “Hey Marc-E-Man!  Hey buddy boy!!”  She’s so cute with him and he loves the attention.
Mikey 12/5/11- Mom: “Get your finger out of your butt!”  Emmery: “No!” *moans of ectasy* *giggles*
Mikey 10/23/11-  Em: “What the hell is that fuck?”
Sarah 10/3/11- I went to HEB to pick up a prescription for Marc and when I got back Em told me “I’m SOOO proud of you for getting Marc’s medicine!!”
Sarah 9/9/11- Things Emmery has said to her baby doll..
be quiet
stop crying
stop whining
relax
listen to mommy
wait for mommy
you’re so weird
you’re so goofy
Not one I love you, you’re so cute, you’re so smart, good girl???  I guess it’s true that negative comments have much more of an impact than positive ones.  Gotta work on that!
Sarah 9/20/11- Em: "Mommy, wanna go blow bubbles out in the garage? Mommy, wanna go blow bubbles out in the garage?........ SARAH!!!!! Wanna go blow bubbles out in the garage???????"

2012 begins....

The day after everyone left, Emmery asked to be excused from dinner so she could go play with the iPad.  We finished eating and found this.  She must have been worn out from all the fun.  She NEVER falls asleep on the couch.

Mikey was so excited to use his new Blendtec.  So excited that he went to the store right away to get some fruits and veggies.  Pretty sure he cleared out the whole produce section at HEB!!!

He's making tortilla soup here.  The blender actually heats up the soup IN the blender.  It wasn't piping hot though so we did zap it in the microwave for a bit before digging in.  It was delicious.

The weather finally cleared up so Emmery got to take her new bike for a spin.

Doesn't she look cute in her shades??
Not the most comfortable way to watch TV but she seems to like it.

Are you ready for some CUTENESS????

Thank you Auntie Stacy for my skull tuxedo shirt!!
We hadn't planned on doing much for New Year's Eve since we don't really have a baby sitter.  But a couple days before our neighbor's daughters came and knocked on our door.  They invited us over to their house for New Years.  We decided to go since the kids were invited.  Believe it or not, they stayed up until midnight to ring in 2012!!  We had a great time and it was really nice to meet and hang out with some of our neighbors.

Marc's shirt was a hit!  I squeezed his feet into his skull shoes so that he'd match :-)

I thought I'd try to get a shot of the two of them in front of the tree.

Oh well, ya gotta try, right?  I wish I had kids that would sit still!!

They're getting so good at playing together.  Little fights will break out every once in a while.  I always know when I hear Marc scream.  With a little intervention from mommy they are really good at sharing and taking turns.  Emmery is such a great big sister.  Sometimes I'll hear her (sounding exactly like me) "Marrrrcc, don't put that in your mouth."  Or, "Marc don't climb up on that table buddy.  That's dangerous!"

Seems like any time she sees flowers she has to stop and smell them.  I try to always say yes because I don't want her to see me as someone who doesn't "stop to smell the flowers!" ;-)

Our New Years Day meal turned out fantastic.  Here is Marc goofing around for Daddy.  Look at those friggin EARS!!!  Hysterical!

Santa put some Mr. Bubble bath bombs in their stockings this year.  They bubble up and turn the water blue.  Pretty cool.  The kids had a blast.

Emmery is really starting to use her imagination.  She filled this cup up with bubbles and said, "look mommy an ice cream cone!"
